After Thanksgiving, hunger is probably the furthest thing from your mind. Many of us celebrated the holiday with friends and family in front of an amazing bounty of food, and thoroughly stuffed ourselves.
But you may not realize that for 1 in 6 Americans, hunger is a reality.
Many people think food scarcity and hunger is confined to small pockets of society or certain areas of the country. But that's not the real picture.
We all have contact with people affected by hunger, we just may not be aware of it. It is a silent epidemic that affects more than 49 million Americans -many of those in families caught up in the Great Recession and facing hunger for the first time, who hide their struggle.
Today, in the wake of the bounty of food many of us just enjoyed, we ask you to join our partner Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief charity in America, in fighting hunger this holiday season in whatever way you can.
There are a number of things you can do to participate in this worthy fight: you can donate, spread the word about hunger in the United States, support legislation to help hungry Americans, or volunteer in your community.
To start, demonstrate your support by making a personal pledge to join the fight against hunger. More than 10,000 Change.org members have already made the pledge.
Thanks for taking action,
