Jamie Scott was rushed to a Florida hospital early Tuesday morning after becoming ill, her mother said.
Jamie Scott, 36, is on dialysis and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour agreed to release her from prison because of her medical condition. Her sister Gladys Scott's release order said one of the conditions she must meet is to donate the kidney to her sister within one year.The Scott sisters left the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County on Jan. 7, after being incarcerated for 16 years. Jamie and Gladys Scott, 38, were given life sentences for their involvement in a 1993 armed robbery in Scott County.The sisters are now living in Florida with their mother, Evelyn Rasco, and their children.Jamie Scott was taken to a Florida hospital at about 1 a.m. after she couldn't walk and kept vomiting, Rasco said. Doctors told Rasco that Jamie Scott's potassium level was extremely high and that she had some type of heart problem. Rasco said her daughter's health has been erratic since arriving in Florida.Rasco said doctors have told Jamie Scott that she would have to lose about 100 pounds before she could become a candidate for a kidney transplant. She has been working with several different doctors to determine the best way for her to lose the weight.
